As Wimbledon moves to 2021, Serena Williams loses a big chance to catch Margaret Court’s record (24) this year. A Few days ago, the All England Club announced Wimbledon’s cancellation due to Covid-19, being the first time in 65 years that the tournament will not take place in a year calendar, which has affected all tennis stakeholders, but specially the WTA former World No.1 Serena Williams, who has been trying to reach her 24th Grand Slam title since her maternity leave in 2017.
Unfortunately for Serena, this year doesn’t look promising. She’ll have to wait for this uncommon Global situation to pass before starting to dream again about winning her 24th title. Despite showing a good performance last year, Serena is now 38 years old and time is playing against her, every year is getting harder for her to defeat the new youngsters and as her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, knows a shift in strategy is needed “We have to accept the fact that it is not working, her level is good enough, but we have to understand what is going on and why she is not able to win one. There is a big difference between reaching a final and winning one” and added “she believes she can make it and I believe it too. She’s not that far, but we have to change a few things”.
Today, Serena is focused on her family’s health and keeping herself physically well, hoping for this unfortunate Global chapter to end soon and firmly believing that she will return to the courts stronger than ever. We all hope to see her achieve such a deserved recognition.
